Sahara Nights, Kings Cross, Review...

...was the venue for lunch today, it is a "North African" restaurant/bar, the decor is rather like the name suggests, I think we kind of felt like we should have been dressed up as Arab sheikh or Belly dancers or something in order to enter... ;) The decor was a bit cheesy, and the TV drew a few snide remarks, but then that's never really the point at lunchtime...

The menu covered everything Moroccan/"kebab-ish" you could ask for, and also did a lot of Greek dishes, finishing off with omelets and burgers for those of a more nervous disposition.

After having a verbal recommendation from "Time Based Bulk" (who didn't come to lunch with us today) that the Lamb Tagine was good, I nevertheless found myself powerless to resist the "Sahara Grill", which was made up of SEVEN meat items from other dishes on the menu (a quick way to try everything at once, a bit like having a Meze in Cyprus, but served with chips) - among which were Lamb chops, chicken wings, lamb kofte, chicken kebab and spicy sausages, joined on the plate by ....(and i'm not sure that this is a traditional North African accompaniment)...garlic mayonnaise...

"Torquay Slag", being a bit of a git, ordered the Tagine, which was absolutely wonderful, I am definitely having that next time! It almost tasted Indian in it's cardomom goodness...mmmm...

Public service announcement - Sahara Nights has now closed down, it's been replaced by a venue called "The Big Chill House", which doesn't do such good food...sorry!
